"Welcome to the Other Side" - Jean Michel Jarre
In times of health emergencies and lockdowns, even New Year's Eve celebrations undergo a virtual transformation. Among the first to extend an invitation to bid farewell – albeit at a distance – to twelve forgettable months and welcome 2021 was the French musician Jean-Michel Jarre. The artist presented 'Welcome to the Other Side,' a New Year's Eve concert set within the confines of Notre-Dame Cathedral.
Jean-Michel Jarre performed live from a studio near Notre-Dame, while his avatar played within the digitally recreated 3D French cathedral.
Within this virtual worldIn collaboration with the city of Paris and with UNESCO's patronage, the VRrOOm startup conceptualized an exceptionally ambitious virtual spectacle. This immersive experience, crafted by a team spanning the globe, also served as the official image for Paris's midnight news bulletin.
Up to this point, the concert has been viewed by 75 million spectators worldwide, brought together across multiple platforms including VR, VRChat, Oculus Venues, national and international TV and radio, as well as social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Weibo, Bilibili, and Douyin. Additionally, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) made the event available for free to its partners worldwide. Moreover, the impressive viewer count continues to soar as the entire event remains available online.
